Let’s Talk About Shh… Getting Tested
Getting tested is a great addition to an overall safer sex strategy. For a lot of different reasons, it’s a good idea to know what your sexual health status is. Primarily, you want to ensure you’re protecting yourself from any pain and harm. We discuss what happens when someone gets tested as well as go over some resources for sexual health clinics, such as Options BC or GetCheckedOnline.
We also talk about having a conversation about STIs with prospective, current, and past partners. What are some good techniques to have that conversation and what kind of etiquette is expected. It’s important to know that there are a lot of misconceptions, judgments, and stigmas around sexually transmitted infections because people often lack the proper education. They can also be colored by cultural prejudices. There is nothing shameful about testing positive with an STI but getting tested and seeking the appropriate medical attention makes a huge difference in a person’s overall health!
